Quick-Deploy Buoy Structure with M550 Lanterns Enhances Safety on Slovenian Coast
When a dredging project along Slovenia’s coastline required fast and cost-effective navigation marking, Sabik’s M550 lanterns—paired with a modular aluminum structure from Heliant—offered the perfect rapid-response solution. The custom setup was delivered and installed in just a few days, helping to secure operations near a floating sand suction pipe with minimal delay.
Background & Challenge
Costruzioni Generali Xodo S.r.l., a specialist in excavation and earthmoving, was contracted for a beach replenishment project along the Slovenian coast. A floating pipe was used to suction sand from the seabed and deposit it back onshore. This temporary but active marine setup posed a navigational risk and needed to be clearly marked for nearby vessels.
The challenge was twofold:
- Find a cost-effective lighting solution compatible with mooring buoys
- Deliver and install the system in just a few days, minimizing project downtime and ensuring safety
Solution for Rapid Buoy Marking – M550 Lanterns with Modular Mounting System
Sabik’s regional distributor, Heliant srl, provided a pre-engineered aluminum structure that serves as both a durable mounting pillar and support frame for Sabik lanterns. The design—typically used for solar PV panel installations—was easily adapted to buoy applications.
Key elements of the solution:
- M550 self-contained marine lanterns – compact, solar-powered, and reliable in coastal conditions
- Modular aluminum mounting system – lightweight yet strong, designed for quick customization
- Two-day customization and two-day installation – completed in under a week
The system was specifically configured for use on small mooring buoys marking the area around the floating pipe. Yellow M550 lanterns were mounted to provide clear visibility for nearby vessels during day and night.
