Sabik LED Lanterns Illuminate Challenging Terrains Across Indonesia

 In Case studies

In a country with over 17,000 islands, reliable navigation is critical. Since 2007, Sabik and its local partner PT Terravision have delivered robust marine lanterns and remote monitoring systems to some of Indonesia’s most difficult-to-access locations—ensuring safe passage for vessels in even the most remote waters.

Background & Challenge

Since 2007, Sabik has delivered reliable, high-performance LED marine lanterns to some of the most remote and geographically challenging locations in Indonesia. With more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia poses unique demands for safe navigation, especially in regions exposed to volatile weather and limited infrastructure.

Sabik’s long-term regional partner, PT Terravision, has led the coordination, delivery, installation, and implementation of these critical navigation systems. For Terravision, the goal has always been clear: ensure safe and efficient navigation for vessels operating in Indonesian waters—regardless of how remote the location.

The project’s complexity has been heightened by extreme site conditions. Many lantern installations were carried out in dense forests, mountaintops, or small uninhabited islands, some requiring air transport or long treks on foot. For example, in the Benoa District, lighthouse installations demanded ship travel followed by manual transport through thick jungle terrain.

Solution for Remote Navigation – LED Lanterns with Satellite Monitoring
To meet these challenges, a robust, scalable and remotely manageable solution was deployed. Sabik supplied a range of lanterns and supporting systems, including:

  • LED 350 (1–7 tier) – high-performance LED lanterns with adjustable intensity and range

  • LED 155 – general-purpose modular lanterns for fixed and floating applications

  • SC 155 – self-contained units with built-in solar panels for remote locations

  • WebSCADA monitoring software – providing centralized oversight and remote diagnostics

  • Inmarsat and AIS communication links – enabling satellite-based control and real-time performance updates from even the most inaccessible sites

These systems allow operators to monitor lantern status, receive performance data, and detect potential issues proactively—significantly reducing the need for manual inspections in difficult or hazardous environments.

Outcome: Wide-Scale Deployment Improves Safety and Operational Reach

Despite the logistical challenges, the collaboration between Sabik and PT Terravision has resulted in the successful deployment of navigation lights across Indonesia’s complex terrain. The combination of durable lantern hardware and advanced monitoring systems ensures a reliable, low-maintenance solution for maritime safety.

PT Terravision Indonesia praised the partnership:

“We started this project with Sabik in 2007. Our first impression of working together with them is great. They have fully supported us with detailed product information. Sabik has a great service and support team for delivery, installation and commissioning. It’s been a pleasure working with them, and we look forward to future collaboration.”

Thanks to this long-standing cooperation, Sabik lanterns now guide vessels through some of the most difficult-to-reach areas of the world, supporting safer navigation and better infrastructure in Indonesia’s maritime domain.
