Sabik Self-Contained Lanterns Ease Navigation along Temburong River, Brunei

 In Case studies

Increased traffic – increased need for safety

As the part of National Development Plan 2007 /2012 were Sabik navigation lights installed along the Temburong River in Brunei. The traffic has increased over the years in the river and it has become important to increase the safety of the passengers and to ease travelling of vessels along the river.

Sabik Lanterns – chosen solution

Sabik navigation lights are well-known for their reliability, robustness and low power consumption and were therefore chosen by the government of Brunei. The products used in the project are SC155II lanterns with Inmarsat monitoring along the WebSCADA server, which enables remote satellite based monitoring of the lanterns.

The LED 155 lantern implemented in this project is a general purpose lantern commonly used on both fixed and floating structures. It is modular in design.

Good customer feedback

The Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar said at the opening ceremony:

“We hope that the navigation lights will benefit the frequent boat and vessel operators along the Temburong River.”

Based on the user feedback after the installation, the lights in the river have been very helpful for the traffic.
