ODSL200 Sector Light with LightGuard Remote Monitoring for Howell’s Point NZ
The Southern Ocean around the bottom of New Zealand is well known for being amongst the world’s most dangerous seas. Adding to this are various reefs located within these waterways. An important Aid to Navigation for this area is the Sector Light located at Howell’s Point Reserve in Riverton near Invercargill.
As the existing light was no longer operational, a replacement was needed to offer local mariner’s a visual aid to navigation and Sabik Marine together with local distributor Sensor Systems were ready to provide solution to the challenge.
Given the location, the solution mandated that the light meet long range visibility requirements (9 NMs/White & 6NMs / Red), have clearly defined red/White sectors, be suitable for battery powered operation and most importantly come with well proven reliability. Sabik’s ODSL 200 omni-directional sector light was selected for this project.
In addition to offering the latest LED high precision sectored light lantern is also equipped with the optional web-based LightGuard Remote Monitoring package. This allows authorised users quick and easy access to the lantern’s status and condition, including battery levels from any computer in the world. As such, there is no need to visit the location to check or confirm the light’s status. In the unlikely event of any issue, an email alert will be automatically sent to the nominated email address(es). The ODSL200 is a well proven light using the latest in LED Technology, requires minimal scheduled maintenance and is designed to deliver reliable performance in even the toughest of environments for many years.
In addition to the Remote Monitoring, the lantern is also equipped with our Sabik Bluetooth control. So, when the contractor is undertaking cleaning, they can use their smartphone to test the light and if need be the ODSL200’s datalog can be downloaded from the lantern using the Bluetooth app and then forwarded to us by email or text to review quickly and accurately whilst they are still onsite. This can be done quickly without any special tools, equipment or specialized training and most importantly without having to open or remove the lantern from its mounting structure, so therefore not affecting the lantern’s precise aligment in relation to surrounding reefs.
Greg O’Dwyer from Sensor Systems summarizes the successful project:
“The ODSL200 is designed to provide reliable performance in even the harshest of locations so we are pleased to offer the local mariners this latest high precision omni-directional sector light to assist them with their safe navigation around these dangerous waters.”
